Why BossaNova's focus on professional services firms?
It's really our clients who led us here. As Andrea Howe and Associates, our former company, we were doing great work in the areas of leadership and team development for clients across a wide array of industries - including financial services, media and entertainment, and national defense. During this time, we partnered with several other consulting organizations - all of whom in one way or another asked us to teach them how we consistently delivered extraordinary experiences for our clients. That led us to an 'aha' that we should be focusing on the industry we know and love the best, which is professional services. So we created BossaNova to do just that.
So, you specialize in client relationship management?
The answer is, "Yes, AND..."
We believe there are three aspects to a clients' extraordinary experience of their advisors:
1 - Caring relationships
2 - Memorable experiences
3 - Meaningful work
So it's more than client relationship management.
Does that mean you're trainers?
The answer is, "Yes, AND..."
We are consultants with decades of experience in large consulting firms—in both billable and internal roles. We know training and development, but we also know professional services from the inside out.
Why the name "BossaNova"?
We wanted a name that really reflected the mind, heart, and soul of our work (since we believe that extraordinary consulting engages all three). We knew that something like the "Institute for Consulting Excellence" wasn't going to do it - too one-dimensional. Plus the last thing the consulting industry needs is another three-letter acronym. We liked the Latin meaning of "nova" (new, refreshed, extraordinary). And we liked the feeling and implications of "bossa nova," which is a popular form of Brazilian jazz music. When we consulted a Portuguese dictionary and learned that "bossa nova" means "the new beat" or "the new way," we knew we'd struck gold!
